Saturday, February 11 | THE TRUE STORY OF THE 3 LITTLE PIGS BY A. WOLF – Think you know the real story behind the huffing and puffing? Think again. There’s only one individual who knows the true story about one wolf, three houses and three little pigs: Alexander T. Wolf. In this revealing no-squealing adaptation of Jon Scieszka’s popular book, A. Wolf has a chance to tell his side of the story.

Saturday, February 11 | Kelli Schaefer, Hobo Sexual, and Tope – Portland record label Amigo/Amiga will take over the Columbia City Theater two nights in a row in 2012 – February 10th and 11th. Drew Grow & the Pastors’ Wives will play on February 10th, and have invited their good friend and fellow Portland songwriter Bryan Free to open up the evening (additional support tba). Kelli Schaefer is set to headline the following night, February 11th with Portland hip-hop artist and remixologist Tope to open, and heavy Seattle duo Hobosexual to follow.

Happy Birthday To The Late, Great Django Reinhardt!

Today, in 1910, a guitar legend was born in Liberchies, Pont-à-Celles, Belgium, to a family of Manouche gypsies. Though born with the first name Jean, he was given the nickname “Django” which means “I Awake” in the Romani language. Django Reinhardt was drawn to music at an early age and initially played the violin. At the age of twelve, he was given a banjo-guitar as a gift and quickly learned the instrument, mimicking the Roma musicians that surrounded him in the encampments outside of Paris. By thirteen, he was making a living as a musician and by eighteen, he’d made his first recordings, playing banjo.

That same year, the caravan that he shared with his first wife, caught fire. Returning home late from a performance, Django knocked over a candle on his way to bed. His wife made imitation paper flowers as a way to supplement their meagre income and as a result, their caravan was loaded with flammable materials. Django received first and second degree burns all over his body. His right leg was paralysed and the third and fourth fingers on his left hand were badly burned. Challenging doctor’s claims that he would never walk again, he refused to have one of his legs amputated and was walking with the aid of a cane within a year. Read the rest of this entry »

TONIGHT! An Evening with Vince Mira! Born in Los Angeles and raised in San Antonio Texas, artist Vince Mira’s rise to fame has captivated America. Discovered while playing for tips in Seattle’s Pike Place Market, his rapid rise to prominence led to a debut EP and a 2nd full-length album produced by John Carter Cash. Both recorded at the Cash Cabin and followed by a veritable media frenzy. The young baritone with the big voice has been featured on “Good Morning America”, “The Ellen Degeneres Show” and “Inside Edition” and has played the Austin City Limits Festival, Bumbershoot, the mainstage at the Sasquatch Festival and has showcased at SXSW. He is now in the process of writing and recording his 3rd album

TONIGHT! Team Up’s Gigs4Good w/ Handful of Luvin, Jubilee & The Local Strangers for PAWS Come and experience a fun night of music for a cause with three of Seattle’s most entertaining bands. Fiddle-driven Roots/Rock band Handful of Luvin’ will be supported by non-profit band Jubilee and emerging new talent The Local Strangers to benefit the PAWS Injured and Orphaned Wildlife Rehab Program at one of Seattle’s legendary live music venues, the Tractor Tavern in Ballard. Friday, July 1 KUOW’s ‘Weekday’ Live at Town Hall Host Steve Scher and team come to Town Hall for a special two hour live broadcast of Weekday. The first hour will feature special guest Sheramn Alexie along with musical guest Rachel Flotard (Visqueen), the second is anchored by the popular segment “Your Take on the News,” an onstage roundtable featuring Knute “Mossback” Berger, Joni Balter of the Seattle Times, and The Stranger’s Eli Sanders.

Saturday, July 2 Red, White and Dead Zombie Block Party The horde is baaaaacck! 2010 was the definitely the “Year of the Zombie” in Seattle kicking off with our annual “Red, White and Dead Zombie Walk” in Fremont returning the title of “Zombie Capital of the World” to Seattle. Last year, over 6,500 people attended with 4,233 people dressed in full zombie attire.
