Ring In the New Year Right! Our Recommended New Year’s Events

Now that you’ve all recovered from the holiday madness of last weekend, it’s time to start planning for your New Year’s Eve. We scoured our list of New Year’s events and picked out some choice events that aren’t sold out and are sure to appeal to a large variety of tastes. We got plenty of burlesque and cabaret, tons of music events featuring everything from electronic, reggae and hip hop to punk rock, metal and polka, a few food events, a healthy smattering of comedy and one event that describes itself as “a post-apocalyptic disco fantasy at the end of the world.” We started as far west as we could go (Kealakekua, Hawaii) and headed all the way to the Big Apple. So, no matter where you call home, there should be something relatively close to you.

This is by no means a complete list of New Years events that we’re ticketing. You can find our complete list of events here and browse the THIRTEEN pages of events.

Not planning on going out? Got your own New Year’s tradition that doesn’t involve battling crowds of drunken revellers? Let us know what your tradition is in the comments section!

But, for those of you that have to get out of the house and party, here’s our picks. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

Hot Tickets: Seattle

Every Thursday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Seattle. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

TONIGHT!! FAUN FABLES (feat. Nils Frykdahl of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) FAUN FABLES is made to explore human pathos amid an animate earth with musical & physical storytelling forms. It has been attracting a devoted and eclectic following since 1997 with numerous performances throughout North America, Europe, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and four record releases distributed worldwide on Drag City Records. Dawn McCarthy is a writer, singer and theater artist whose work is a sea of gorgeous elemental nitty gritty; haunting melodies, breath, stomping, and natural theatricality led by the voice, rooted in the physical body. It is a crossroads where ancient ballad, art song, physical theater and rock music meet. Her lyrics speak to people of all ages about things like rugged housekeeping, street kids, growing old, sleepwalking and exiled travelers returning home. A solo & musical exploration through Europe plus a fateful meeting with Oakland based entertainer Nils Frykdahl began a creative chapter in 1997 that eventually relocated her to the thriving arts community of the Bay Area, California in 1998. Local bands The Curious Mystery and Clearly Beloved open the show.

Friday, October 14 Can Can presents The Heavenly Spies in “Betty Burlesque”  “Heavenly Spies Betty Burlesque kicks off a two month run this Friday at Can Can. The “death-defying high kicks and gravity-defying hair” of these unstoppable ladies are back with another show sure to sell out week after week like previous productions Mata Hari and XOXOX! (I say “unstoppable” because if you haven’t seen a Spies show yet, it really is one intensely athletic dance routine after another). In communicating with me via her mysterious pink rotary phone, Agent Rhinestone confessed that she actually taught the evening length show’s choreography to her fellow Spies while about to give birth to her beautiful baby boy. “Shimmies are not the same when you’re a week overdue,” she told me. Though Agent Rhinestone will be minding her girls from the sidelines for now, the line up for Betty will be: Coco Capone, Kimberly Galore, Caela Bailey, Violet Hour, with newest addition, BeBe Danger and a different guest artist every week (such as Benihana of the Castaways and The Luminous Pariah).”  – Burlesque Seattle Press Read the rest of this entry »
