TONIGHT, October 27 | The Bushwick Bookclub: The clubs one-year anniversary show! This is not your run of the mill book club. Much like any, they act upon the urge to read and to have discussions about what they read. But they found that this was not enough for them. When they read books, they also want to write songs about them. And when they write songs, they like to perform them for an audience. This month’s book is Stephen King’s The Shining!

Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 | Halloween Edition! The Heavenly Spies in Betty Burlesque!: Seattle’s most glamorous and award winning burlesque troupe The Heavenly Spies are back this fall after 7 years of sold out shows and ready to shimmy and shake your socks off in their newest show Betty Burlesque! The Heavenly Spies began as a little known cabaret/burlesque group titled: Ultra and the Satin Dolls by a group of eager-to-perform Cornish graduates in early 2004. In 2005 after many changes the defunct Dolls, changed names, members and became The Heavenly Spies. They made their mark in the Neo-Burlesque movement in 2007 as the winners in Burlesque’s most prestigious competition The Miss Exotic World Pageant and have continued to wow sold out audiences with their death defying high kicks and gravity defying hair.

Two Legendary Punk Bands Hit the West Coast!

Many of us here at Brown Paper Tickets came up in the punk rock scene. The sense of community and DIY aspects of the punk scene still ring true in many of our company policies and you can often wander by any given desk here in our offices and hear punk music coming out of the computer speakers, see punk fliers on office walls and of course, catch many of our employees sporting a t-shirt of their favorite punk band.

So, while I was perusing upcoming events that we are ticketing, I was thrilled to see that we’re ticketing shows by two punk rock legends, UK street-punk band The Business and Northwest hardcore legends Poison Idea. Read the rest of this entry »

San Diego – Johnny Rad Fest This Weekend!!

Starting on Thursday, July 28 the folks at Brixton clothing are putting on a great music festival. The 4th Annual Johnny Rad Fest, featuring three nights of amazing garage pop and punk rock including The Spits, Reigning Sound, Half Rats and Shannon and the Clams. Brixton was created in 2004 and creates clothes that “appeal to the individual in a modern yet traditional way” and that’s fitting because many of the bands playing Johnny Rad Fest take classic sounds and update them for the hipster set.

Day 1 features headliners The Spits, an amazing band from Brown Paper Ticket’s hometown of Seattle, Washington. Their live shows are the stuff of legend in the Northwest. The band often performs in costumes and cranks out dirty, noisy, synth-heavy garage punk at local punk venues like The Funhouse. Their sound is a mash-up of classic skate-punk, 80’s arcade game synths and 60’s psych and they’re a great band to drink to. This is sure to be the rowdiest show of the weekend so take the next day off of work so you can nurse your hangover. They’re playing at the Til Two Club this Thursday, July 28. Tickets are available here but are going fast so get them now. Read the rest of this entry »
