TONIGHT, January 26 | Elissa Ball and Artist Home Presents: Substance (Comedy, Poetry, Short Film) – Elissa Ball and Artist Home Presents: Substance: a night of Comedy, Poetry, and Short Film featuring Comedy by Danielle Radford,  Elicia Sanchez / Poetry by Evan Peterson, Adam Boehmer / Short film by Marie Biondolillo, Union Street Films.

Tomorrow, January 27 | University Book Store presents: Daniel Handler and Maira Kalman: Why We Broke Up – Min Green and Ed Slaterton are breaking up, so Min is writing Ed a letter and giving him a box. Inside the box is why they broke up. Two bottle caps, a movie ticket, a folded note, a box of matches, a protractor, books, a toy truck, a pair of ugly earrings, a comb from a motel room, and every other item collected over the course of a giddy, intimate, heartbreaking relationship. Item after item is illustrated and accounted for, and then the box, like a girlfriend, will be dumped. Prime tickets are $22 and include a copy of Why We Broke Up, available for pickup the night of the event. General tickets are available for $5.

Tonight! Pioneer Square’s O’ Crafty Night I –  Celebrate the holidays in Downtown Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood by making a craft so cool, you can give it to someone other than your mom! (But we support gifting to the mothers as well – don’t forget the mothers!) Learn how to create a custom felt box for your cherished items, or use it as a decorative package for your holiday gifts your friends and family will keep forever. Depending on how fast you craft, there may also be time to create a custom floral or geometric layered brooch using recycled felted wool! All supplies provided.

Saturday, December 10 | Urban Wine Tour – Woodinville isn’t the only place to discover Washington wine – there are delicious wineries right in Seattle’s own urban center! TONIGHT! An Evening with Vince Mira! Born in Los Angeles and raised in San Antonio Texas, artist Vince Mira’s rise to fame has captivated America. Discovered while playing for tips in Seattle’s Pike Place Market, his rapid rise to prominence led to a debut EP and a 2nd full-length album produced by John Carter Cash. Both recorded at the Cash Cabin and followed by a veritable media frenzy. The young baritone with the big voice has been featured on “Good Morning America”, “The Ellen Degeneres Show” and “Inside Edition” and has played the Austin City Limits Festival, Bumbershoot, the mainstage at the Sasquatch Festival and has showcased at SXSW. He is now in the process of writing and recording his 3rd album

TONIGHT! Team Up’s Gigs4Good w/ Handful of Luvin, Jubilee & The Local Strangers for PAWS Come and experience a fun night of music for a cause with three of Seattle’s most entertaining bands. Fiddle-driven Roots/Rock band Handful of Luvin’ will be supported by non-profit band Jubilee and emerging new talent The Local Strangers to benefit the PAWS Injured and Orphaned Wildlife Rehab Program at one of Seattle’s legendary live music venues, the Tractor Tavern in Ballard. BPT’s Favorite Venues: The Can Can

In the heart of the Pike Place Market, here in Seattle, we’re lucky enough to have a little gem of a nightclub called the The Can Can a subterranean cabaret that’s become one of the most popular night-life destinations in town.

The Can Can’s aesthetic is steeped in Moulin Rouge-era Paris but maintains a modern edge. Descending into the basement night-club visitors anticipate a show heavy on nostalgic naughtiness. However, The Castaways, the Can Can’s in-house dance troupe, are not retro bump and grinders. These guys and gals perform burlesque with a edgy, surreal twist. My band has performed with them quite often and they constantly blow me away with their aggressive, high-energy, ultra-sexy dance moves. Always heavy on quirk and humor, they manage to trick audiences into watching modern dance by disguising it as a burlesque show. Read the rest of this entry »
