Now that you’ve all recovered from the holiday madness of last weekend, it’s time to start planning for your New Year’s Eve. We scoured our list of New Year’s events and picked out some choice events that aren’t sold out and are sure to appeal to a large variety of tastes. We got plenty of burlesque and cabaret, tons of music events featuring everything from electronic, reggae and hip hop to punk rock, metal and polka, a few food events, a healthy smattering of comedy and one event that describes itself as “a post-apocalyptic disco fantasy at the end of the world.” We started as far west as we could go (Kealakekua, Hawaii) and headed all the way to the Big Apple. So, no matter where you call home, there should be something relatively close to you.
This is by no means a complete list of New Years events that we’re ticketing. You can find our complete list of events here and browse the THIRTEEN pages of events.
Not planning on going out? Got your own New Year’s tradition that doesn’t involve battling crowds of drunken revellers? Let us know what your tradition is in the comments section!
But, for those of you that have to get out of the house and party, here’s our picks. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

TONIGHT, December 27 | Yes Sweet Can!: Who says a garbage can is trash? Who says sweeping up is a chore? Yes Sweet Can instills new life into old ideas, creating in a world in which anything can happen. This piece is about a group of people who, blown around by a storm of change, come to a place where the old rules of physical limitations no longer apply. In this place, they encounter acrobatic brooms, disco-dancing chocolate milk, and a trio of tap dancing trash cans. Their individual journeys toward expanded perspectives– with the help of their circus apparatus, aerial silks, acrobatics, slack rope, and hula hoops — expose the magic of everyday life, accessible to everyone.
Thursday, December 29 | Laughter Against the Machine: New Years!: W. Kamau Bell, Nato Green and Janine Brito, touring as Laughter Against the Machine, offer a unique kind of comedy where the comedians and the audience to expect to be challenged, to laugh, and think at the same time. It’s an issue-oriented, no-holds-barred show with no preconceived expectations, These shows mark the end of LATM’s biggest year ever. Collectively they visited seven of the nation’s Occupy Wall Street encampments. And after an extremely successful fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, they toured and shot a documentary of the most politically polarized places in the USA. In addition to visiting Occupy Wall Street actions across the country, they crossed the border in Arizona, marched with striking hotel workers in Chicago, went to a Mosque in Michigan, touched the levee in the lower 9th ward in New Orleans, and hung out with street artists against oil pipelines in DC.
