Hot Tickets: Boston

Here are this week’s Hot Tickets in the Boston area. Check back every Thursday at noon, EST for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Starts TONIGHT! February 23 I The Zoo Story  This one-act play concerns two characters, Peter and Jerry. Peter is a middle-class publishing executive with a wife, two daughters, two cats and two parakeets. Jerry is an isolated and disheartened man. These men meet on a park bench in New York City’s Central Park. Jerry is desperate to have a meaningful conversation with another human being. He intrudes on Peter’s peaceful state by interrogating him and forcing him to listen to stories like “THE STORY OF JERRY AND THE DOG”, and the reason behind his visit to the zoo. The action is linear, unfolding in front of the audience in “real time”. The elements of ironic humor and unrelenting dramatic suspense are brought to a climax when Jerry brings his victim down to his own savage level.

Friday, February 24 I Caravan of Thieves at the me&thee coffeehouse  For the past three years, this Caravan of Thieves has roamed the North American continent recruiting a family of avid thrill seekers at their high energy shows. Driving gypsy jazz rhythms, acoustic guitars, upright bass and violin lay the foundation for mesmerizing vocal harmonies and fantastic stories.  It’s theatrical and humorous. It’s musical and intense. It entertains, dazzles and defies classification while welcoming the spectator to join the band throughout the performance in momentary fits of claps, snaps and sing-alongs. If Django Reinhardt, the cast of Stomp and the Beatles all had a party at Tim Burton’s house, Caravan of Thieves would be the band they hired. Read the rest of this entry »

Every Thursday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Seattle. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Friday, November 11 I An Evening with Reilly & Maloney – Perhaps the most endearing duo to grace the West Coast folk music scene, Ginny Reilly & David Maloney bring their timeless sound to West Seattle’s intimate Kenyon Hall.  Expect plenty of old favorites sprinkled throughout the evening – the pair celebrated their *40th* year singing together in 2010! – but also new selections from their recent work including David’s new solo album “One Day More.”

Friday, November 11 & Saturday, November 12 I Pirates of Penzance – STAGEright Theatre presents a show you thought you’d already seen: “The Pirates of Penzance.” This Gilbert and Sullivan classic is one of the most influential and well-known light operettas of all time and though more than 130 years old, it is still as charming and relevant as ever. Traditionally performed with dozens of singers, Director Brendan Mack’s staging features a cast of eleven playing every role in the show. This gender-bending production draws influence from Lady Gaga, “Glee,” Elvis Presley, Carol Burnett, “Grease,” Sesame Street, Ru Paul’s Drag Race, and many other cultural icons. This is a rendition of Pirates not to be missed! Read the rest of this entry »
