Thursday, January 26Dina Martina: Moribund – Cult sensation DINA MARTINA returns to L.A. with DINA MARTINA: MORIBUND at Silver Lake’s Cavern Club Celebrity Theater from January 19 – 29. After attaining cult status on the west coast and touring nationally, Martina’s official New York debut in 2005 sold out in minutes. Her follow-up shows have left jaded audiences (including Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, Matt Stone, John Cameron Mitchell, Margaret Cho, Bruce Vilanch, Joyce Dewitt, and Jeff Stryker — a list as strange has her shows) stunned and clamoring for more.

Saturday, January 27Judy Garland LIVE! in Concert at The French Market Showroom in West Hollywood – Critically Acclaimed Judy Garland Tribute Artist Peter Mac has a new monthly home in the West Hollywood’s French Quarter Restaurant’s inside the French Market Place.   This will be the first performance in their new Showroom built and designed especially for Mac. Hot Tickets: Seattle

Every Thursday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Seattle. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Tonight! An Improvised Christmas Carol –  Seattle’s funniest Christmas show returns! First performed in 1985, A(n Improvised) Christmas Carol brings Charles Dickens’s Christmas classic to the stage with a twist. What if Scrooge owned a pet store? What if the Ghost of Christmas Past was a Film Noir detective? What if Tiny Tim wasn’t so tiny? The audience gives suggestions up front, and Unexpected Productions’ improvisers use these suggestions to tell an all new tale of how Christmas can (or can’t!) change Ebenezer Scrooge’s life! This is a great show for families, shoppers, tourists, and audience members of all ages.

Tonight!Gigs4Good for Team Up: Drew Grow & TPW’s, Lower Lights Burning, Chris Cunningham –  Come and celebrate the end of another great year with Team Up for Nonprofits. Portland’s Drew Grow & The Pastor’s Wives, Shelton’s Lower Lights Burning and Ravenna Woods’ Chris Cunningham are all coming together to perform a very special Gigs4Good benefit for Team Up at The Tractor on Dec 15th.  The second annual Gigs4Good for Team Up benefit is an opportunity to see some great music while supporting a 501(c)3 organization that works tirelessly to support other great nonprofits in our community.

Hot Tickets: Seattle

Every Thursday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Seattle. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Friday, November 25 Dina Martina Christmas Show 2011 – Sleigh bells ring; are you listening?  They’re heralding the arrival of the 61st annual Dina Martina Christmas Show!  Unwittingly hilarious and wonderfully bizarre, Dina Martina is the chanteuse with the leastest; the dancer with the hunchfront; the childlike lady who, year after year, is the holiday gift that truly keeps on giving. A perennial favorite of the likes of John Waters, Margaret Cho, Matt Stone and Graham Norton, Miss Martina’s shows have long been a favorite holiday tradition for those who want something other than the usual holiday fare.

Friday, November 25 Proof by David Auburn – Blank Stage Theater presents their inaugural production of Proof by David Auburn. The winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, Proof follows a woman struggling through her grief from the death of her father, a mathematical genius who was profoundly mentally ill. With the interference of her practical sister and one of her father’s former students, she considers whether she has inherited his genius or his madness. Proof is a play that entertains and challenges audiences, with characters that are smart, complex, and often surprising.  Read the rest of this entry »

This Ain’t Your Grandma’s Holiday Party!

Ho! Ho! Ho! The holiday season is officially upon us. Assuming you weren’t trampled to death by a Black Friday mob, you’re probably ready to go out and enjoy some holiday festivities. Well there’s plenty to choose from, but if you’re like me, you’d rather not bother with the traditional fare. You’d rather set your sights on events that challenge the traditional view of the most sacred of American family traditions and provide a little comedic stress relief. Here are a few of my favorites happening around the country. If you’re lucky, one of these events might just be in your neck of the woods. Read the rest of this entry »
