TONIGHT, February 21 | Good-Night Moon! A benefit for the Radar LAB – A Bernal Heights cocktail party fundraiser! Celebrate the last new moon of the lunar year with an enchanting evening of food, wine, tarot and your special Witch of Honor, Justin Vivian Bond, all to benefit the 4th Annual Radar LAB artists’ retreat! With a home-made feast culled from the recipes of El Bulli‘s  “The Family Meal” by the world’s most famous chef Ferran Adria; intoxicating wines donated from The Lexington Club, illuminating tarot readings from Marcus Ewert, and the magical presence of Justin Vivian Bond. 100% of the proceeds go to fund the LAB. The LAB artists retreat relies 100% on funding from special benefits such as these.

Wednesday, February 22 | Counter Attack! – Stagebridge presents the world premiere of Counter Attack!, an original play by Joan Holden. Loosely based on Candacy Taylor‘s book Counter Culture, Holden deftly shatters stereotypes of aging workers, tapping into personal stories to deconstruct complex politics. Best of all, this original Stagebridge production reunites Holden with director Sharon Lockwood and actress Joan Mankin, two esteemed artists who helped Holden forge the New Left movement of the SF Mime Troup. Saturday, February 11 | Kelli Schaefer, Hobo Sexual, and Tope – Portland record label Amigo/Amiga will take over the Columbia City Theater two nights in a row in 2012 – February 10th and 11th. Drew Grow & the Pastors’ Wives will play on February 10th, and have invited their good friend and fellow Portland songwriter Bryan Free to open up the evening (additional support tba). Kelli Schaefer is set to headline the following night, February 11th with Portland hip-hop artist and remixologist Tope to open, and heavy Seattle duo Hobosexual to follow.

Saturday, February 11 Anti-Valentine’s Flash Bash The Kursaal (Function Suite), Southend-on-Sea   Join the heartbreakers, home wreckers and serial daters of Essex in rebelling against stupid Cupid and his painful arrows. Love is for losers. The Seaside Sirens are back with their first annual event of the year – The Anti-Valentine’s Flash Bash. If you came to the event last year you already know you’re in for a treat! Posh venue, great bands, loads of roller girls letting their hair down and so much more. The best bit is tickets are even cheaper this year at only £8 each. Please note that due to the licensed bar and the content of some of the entertainment, this is an over 18 only event.

Friday February 03 The Jitterbug Vol IV Black Cherry Lounge, Nottingham  After arriving with a bang on the Nottingham party scene last year, The Jitterbug is back for its first event of 2012. They take great pride in bringing you the very best national and international acts from the world of Electro Swing and the recent Electro Swing Peoples Favourite 2011 awards are testament to that with 4 out of 11 categories being won by acts hosted at The Jitterbug. This year is to be no exception and they kick off the year by bringing you Sound Assembly. Making waves in the Electro Swing pond, this 3-piece live act from Lancaster, fronted by Sally Bloomer, has played at countless events across the UK and recently at the Electro Swing Club in Paris. The Jitterbug is also pleased to present to you Bass for the Baby, having performed at London Decompression among other festivals, he is sure to stir things up. The Jitterbug residents: Jamko, Maxophone and Das Motz have been busy over the festive period preparing an audio and visual show which they will be unveiling for the very first time. Tomorrow, January 27 | University Book Store presents: Daniel Handler and Maira Kalman: Why We Broke Up – Min Green and Ed Slaterton are breaking up, so Min is writing Ed a letter and giving him a box. Inside the box is why they broke up. Two bottle caps, a movie ticket, a folded note, a box of matches, a protractor, books, a toy truck, a pair of ugly earrings, a comb from a motel room, and every other item collected over the course of a giddy, intimate, heartbreaking relationship. Item after item is illustrated and accounted for, and then the box, like a girlfriend, will be dumped. Prime tickets are $22 and include a copy of Why We Broke Up, available for pickup the night of the event. General tickets are available for $5.

Friday, January 20 Identity Parade: The Deadly Winters, Paul Gilbody & Steve Heron The Village – Edinburgh  Showcasing the best in Scotland’s growing music scene in an intimate and informal manner, each ‘Identity Parade’ features three bands, one compere and many tunes in the unique setting that is The Vilage in Leith, Edinburgh. ‘Identity Parade’ is a showcase which is aimed at supporting the Edinburgh music scene. Originally set up by musician Alan R Davison and Woosh Entertainment’s Keith Easton, ‘Identity Parade’ brings together musical talent from all over Scotland, offering a variety of different sounds. Tomorrow, January 6 | Blank Slate – Working from nothing but audience suggestions and imagination, Unexpected Productions’ professional comedy improvisers create a never-before-seen production right in front of your eyes. In Blank Slate, the audience first creates a detailed character for each improviser. Using these living characters, the audience crafts the story and the improvisers try to keep up! Will John, the 41 year old unmarried disco dancing accountant find out that Charlie, the 21 year old snowboarder MIT graduate is actually his long lost son? Will Charlie finally realize that Kate, the 24 year old classical guitarist who serves his coffee everyday, is actually in love with him? And will we find out that Kate is actually a Russian spy?
