Saturday, January 7 I Chemically Imbalanced Comedy Showcase featuring Rainbow Deli! Now in its twelfth season of showcasing the Best and Brightest Comedy in Chicago. Each week three different Improv or Sketch Comedy groups perform. Guest performers include groups from area Theaters like Second City, IO, Annoyance, Playground, pH, ComedySportz and more. This month will feature Rainbow Deli! Rainbow Deli takes a suggestion and turn it into poetry. They then take that poetry and turn it into thirty blistering minutes of improv. Thursday, November 10 I Cupcakes & Cocktails – This evening will feature cupcakes prepared by Blue Sky Inn’s staff, paired with custom cocktails created and poured by expert mixologists from the U.S. Bartenders Guild. Guests can also enjoy beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres. They’ll also be hosting a cupcake contest: they’ll supply the cake, icings, fillings, nuts, chocolate & other assorted goodies, and you can assemble it to eat or enter into a contest we’ll be holding that night. The contest will be judged by Amanda Rockman, pastry chef at The Bristol and contestant on Top Chef: Just Desserts. Our silent auction includes items from Avec, the Paris Club, Purple Pig, Big Jones, the Dana Hotel, Lush Wine & Spirits, AND Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks tickets. A hundred and twenty nine years ago, the man that would always be associated with the role of Count Dracula, Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó was born. We know him better as Bela Lugosi and he first played the role in the 1927 Broadway production of Bram Stoker’s novel. But Lugosi is probably best known for his portrayal in the 1931 Universal Studios cinematic version of Dracula. His naturally, heavily accented voice and creepy smile would for ever more be associated with the character of Count Dracula and the role would, unfortunately, typecast Lugosi into the role of a horror villain for the remainder of his career.
His later work with B-movie legend Ed Wood was well documented in Tim Burton’s 1994 biopic about the director. Wood was a huge fan of Lugosi’s and would give him star billing in such films as Glen or Glenda and Plan 9 from Outer Space but by the time Lugosi made Wood’s association he was a Demerol addict and living in near-poverty. TONIGHT!! African Expressions Dance Workshop Hedwig Dances presents the African Expressions Dance Workshop taught by instructor Amaniyea Payne, Artistic Director of Muntu Dance Theatre. The workshop provides an experience in natural rhythmic movements and incorporates traditional African dance, Caribbean dance and African American culture into the movement.
