BPT’s Featured Non-Profit: Kiva

As you probably know, Brown Paper Tickets is a ticketing company. We sell tickets all over the world to events and have an unbelievable list (in my opinion) of free services and tools for event producers to put their events together. What you may not be fully aware of is this whole other branch of the company that is very involved in giving back to our communities. This is the realm I am fortunate enough to be immersed in.

One of the most recent additions to our company’s giving came from the Marketing and Communications team. The VP of Marketing and Communications, Kelsye Nelson, was given a budget of $25 a month to take her staff out to lunches or coffee, so instead, in the spirit of Brown Paper Tickets, she and her team decided to vote on one person a month who they feel has been rocking their job and exhibits the essence of Brown Paper Tickets. This month I was honoured with their votes. As the winner of  the grand prize, I get to choose who the money goes to this month at Kiva. Read the rest of this entry »

DIY Gig Poster Contest Winners: Netherwood!

Congratulations to the winners of our Do It Yourself Gig Poster contest: Netherwood, hailing from Orlando, Florida. They rallied their fans and got more votes than any of the other contestants. As a result, they have won a full day of in-person consulting with Bill, our Music Doer. Congratulations, guys.

Netherwood have been together for about three years. The band features John Lazar on vocals and lead guitar, Erica Kirkland on guitar, Kevin Meehan on bass and vocals and James Campbell on drums. They met through social circles and through the university where three of the members work. Read the rest of this entry »

DIY Gig Poster Contest Runner-Up: Leche De Tigre

Leche de Tigre love to play theaters where the crowd has space to dance and this Hawaiian Latin Gypsy funk band definitely know how to get people on their feet. The 8-piece group originated in 2009 in Kona, Hawaii. Blending Caribbean rhythms with Eastern European, tango and rock influences, with a dash of bossa nova, Leche de Tigre created a unique style that has attracted a strong following over the years.

Their favorite show they’ve ever played took place in September at Aloha Theatre. They said, “The place was full, the sound was good, and the vibe was fantastic. [There was] a great crowd up and dancing.” This New Year’s Eve, the band returned to the Aloha Theater and judging from this video, this show was no different. Read the rest of this entry »

New York: Have A Drink On Us!

Now that the Holidays are over and the new year has begun, why not come out to Brooklyn & meet me, AJ Andrews, your local NYC Brown Paper Tickets representative? I’m hosting our next producer “Meet & Greet” in New York tomorrow at Brooklyn’s own Barcade.

Come have a drink on Brown Paper Tickets, meet other NYC producers and enjoy a little relaxation after the holidays! It’s a great forum to share ideas and create partnerships with other local NYC professionals in the entertainment industry. Ask questions, expand your creative reach and seek advice from others who have been successful! You can RSVP to this free event right over here.

I hope to host monthly events where various event producers can meet, mingle and develop partnerships in the greater New York area.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

I hope to see you soon! -AJ

BPT’s Resident Roller Girl Re-Caps the Derby World Cup in Toronto!

Earlier this month our resident roller girl Michelle Sunnyday (aka Sunny Wytha Chansapain – 100% of the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds)  attended the inaugural Derby World Cup. This was a historical event for the derby community with teams from thirteen countries competing for the title of World Champion. We ticketed the event, our Alternative Sports Doer Bob Noxious organized the announcing, and Michelle was there spreading the love to our beloved derby community. Here’s her re-cap:

On December 1st through 3rd, Blood & Thunder Magazine hosted the Roller Derby World Cup. I was lucky enough to be able to attend and serve as an ambassador for Brown Paper Tickets. There were teams from all over the world including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Finland, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden and USA.

Toronto Roller Derby was the hosting league and the whole event was handled beautifully by the league and their army of volunteers. No one had any idea how well it would be recieved, but attendance exceeded everyone’s expectations with over 2,000 people coming through the doors each day. Read the rest of this entry »
