A Gift for You – The 2011 BPT Holiday Mixtape!

The holidays are upon us. I suppose most of you are either off work or heading out early to spend time with your families. There’s not a whole lot going on as far as events go, so we decided to send you all off with a little holiday mixtape featuring songs that, hopefully, haven’t been played to death this holiday season.

We got holiday reggae, rap, blues, soul, country and punk for you; some tried and true holiday classics like one of the original 1949 versions of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” (the other version, released that same year was by Dinah Shore and Buddy Clark) and The Ronette’s girl-group rendition of “Frosty the Snowman” (off of the classic Phil Spector Christmas album) and of course, The Pogues’ modern holiday classic “Fairytale of New York” featuring the late, great Kirsty MacColl. It’s twenty songs of pure eclectic, holiday bliss and it’s our present to you. Enjoy the tunes and have a Happy Holiday from all of us here at Brown Paper Tickets. Read the rest of this entry »

BPT Mixtape #14 – Graeme’s UK Rock City!

It’s been too long since we’ve posted a BPT Mixtape, but fear not, the wait is over. Graeme over in our UK office put together a killer mix of his favorite hard-rocking hits. Lots of great stuff here: classic 70’s hard rock with AC/DC and KISS, some nice Brit-pop courtesy of Oasis, James and the Manic Street Preachers and current indie-rock faves The Hold Steady and The Gaslight Anthem. There’s even some comedic rapping courtesy of New Zealand’s Flight of the Conchords! One thing these songs all have in common? They all rock. Thanks Graeme. Read the rest of this entry »

BPT Mixtape #13 – Michelle’s the Baddest of the Bad

Our resident roller-girl Michelle is one tough cookie and she’s put together a playlist of tunes that get her pumped up to hit the track and kick some butt with the Tilted Thunder Railbirds. She’s got a great sampling of killer punk rock, metal and raw rock n’ roll and I figured this would be a great soundtrack for you all to get ready for the work week. While you might not be risking a dislocated shoulder or a black eye, sometimes we all can feel a little beat up from our daily lives.

Here’s what Michelle has to say: “This is the playlist I put on my MP3 player before a bout. Gets me amped up and ready to tear it up out on the track. Enjoy!

So, whether you’re a fellow roller-girl or just need a little adrenaline-shot to get you ready to face the nine to five, this is the mix for you. Read the rest of this entry »

BPT Mixtape #12 – Bill’s Strange Town

Bill, music-doer, musician, and regular contributor to the BPT blog, sent me this playlist a few months ago and I’m finally getting it up and live. He’s got some great stuff on here – a little Tom Waits, a little Leonard Cohen, some classic punk with Crass and Agent Orange and even a little Tennessee Ernie Ford (dig the 60’s go-go version of “Sixteen Tons”).

There’s something on here for everyone and I hope it gets your week started right.
