Hot Tickets: Los Angeles

21 Nov

Every Monday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets will post upcoming events happening in the Los Angeles area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Friday, November 25 | DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA by John Patrick Shanley: John Patrick Shanley’s play, directed by John McNaughton and starring Juliet Landau (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Ed Wood) and Matthew J. Williamson (Sedona, Helter Skelter) revolves around the dilapidated lives of Danny and Roberta, two tortured strangers who meet by chance at a dive bar in the Bronx. Danny, an emotionally unstable, street brawling truck driver, and Roberta, a self-loathing, troubled woman, collide in a morbidly humorous, violent and vulgar fairy tale about a frightening and ultimately fascinating relationship.

Friday, November 25 | Santa Chata & Her Fantastic Failures: DARLINGS! BABIES! LOVELIES! Join La Santa Chata and her merry ragtag band of entertainers as she shares her vaudeville inspired show with you! Santa Chata, the leader of a traveling theater troupe, returns home after a long absence to present her Fallas Fantasticas – her Fantastic Failures. During the rehearsal process she finds that merely ignoring ghosts does not make them disappear. The latest show by Tongue in Chic*ana.

Saturday, November 26 | STATIONS: A Los Angeles Holiday Story: After bringing audiences a contemporized fairytale in their 2010 sold-out, Ovation-nominated “NeverWonderLand,” Boom Kat’s intriguing 2011 collaboration celebrates the shared humanity of people in crisis during the holidays. Embracing physical storytelling, dance and, yes, the potential of Los Angeles public transit, STATIONS juggles the struggle of a new family with the stories of an overworked Santa, an unappreciated pastry chef, a basketball hotshot and other characters racing to keep up in the sprawling city.

Saturday, November 26 | ROBOTRIX (1991) at midnight: Sexy robots clash in this cheesy, ultraviolent Japanese flick.
