Hot Tickets: New York

18 Nov

Every Friday at noon, EST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the New York area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

TONIGHT! I Movember LIVE: Movember is the annual, world-wide charity movement dedicated to changing the face of men’s health – all through the power of the moustache. Come watch the show as all of The PIT Movember Team defeat Cancer live on stage. Movember’s primary campaign objective is to raise awareness around men’s health issues, specifically cancers affecting men. We want everyone to know that most cancers are highly curable if caught in the early stages- including prostate and testicular cancer.  Movember aims to increase early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment, as this will ultimately reduce the number of deaths from cancer.

Saturday, November 19 I Exodus To Jazz: Johnny O’Neal Trio with Jeremy Pelt: Since moving to the New York City area, Johnny O’Neal’s engaging stage presence and enormous musical gifts have made him a New York City favorite. Venues where he performs become destination spots for other musicians. O’Neal’s swinging and highly melodic style reflects the influences of idols Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum.  Jeremy Pelt joins the Johnny O’Neal Trio in this engagement; the first of two O’Neal Trio engagements this season that will feature a special guest.  Voted Rising Star on the trumpet for many years, Jeremy Pelt’s two recent CD releases – “Men of Honor” and “The Talented Mr. Pelt” – proclaim his arrival; critics from around the world consistently affirm this fact with rave reviews of his live and recorded performances.

Saturday, November 19 I November Oyster Tasting: Join Back Forty Restaurant for their second Oyster Tasting: East Coast versus West Coast!  It is the perfect time before Thanskgiving to join them for an afternoon of palate-seductive tasting.  On Saturday, they’ll be hosting oyster shucking, walk-around snacking and plenty of beer and Muscadet.  For $25 you can drink beer and wine, and snack on tasty treats until they run out. They will be featuring four different types of oysters and tickets for the oyster stations will be sold at the door for $2.

Sunday, November 20 I In These Woods: Twenty years ago, ABC pulled the plug on one of the most brilliant TV series of all time, leaving behind a tangled web of dangling plot threads and unanswered questions. Now, eight of New York’s most Twin Peaks-obsessed improvisers will take matters into their own hands, picking up exactly where the series left off and continuing until this groundbreaking phenomenon has received the resolution it deserves. That gum you like is back in style. And yes, it’s really improvised. Starring J Hobart B, Danielia Donohue, Michael Newman, Reilly Owens, Greg Portz, James Rich, Lorie Steele and Shawn Wickens.

Tuesday, November 22 I LADY BUNNY in THAT AIN’T NO LADY!: The raunchy, demented drag diva of Wigstock fame presents her first full-length one wo-man show in almost a decade at the popular latin nightspot La Escuelita every Tuesday through December 26th. Fast-paced and action-packed with glitzy costumes and Bunny’s trademark gravity-defying bouffant wig, THAT AIN’T NO LADY is a cabaret designed for a night club crowd–no lengthy monologues or sappy show tunes here. For mature audiences who enjoy irreverent humor!
