Tonight through Saturday, November 19 I Fierce Love: Stories from Black Gay Life: Roxbury native and Pomo Afro Homos co-founder Brian Freeman returns to his hometown to direct and act in this “remixed” version of “Fierce Love.” The production has been adapted from the original 1991 version to include updated cultural references and a hip-hop musical number, while still maintaining the piece’s core focus on the struggles of Black gay men in America. The Theater Offensive’s ongoing Shout it OUT! collaboration with Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC Boston) will open Fierce Love’s Saturday matinee. Shout it OUT! will be a staged reading of original coming out stories from LGBT people of color. This work was developed in two workshop series with The Theater Offensive staff and Brian Freeman, in which community members learned to stage their writings for a broader audience.

Friday, November 18 I Tato Torres & Yerbabuena: Join Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción as they proudly present the Boston premiere of the new Puerto Rican music ensemble Yerbabuena, led by singer and composer Tato Torres. We define strong ties as someone who is a New England native or has lived here for a substantial period of time who has actively worked or is actively working here. To bring together the music community of New England to honor its best and brightest performers while raising money for music charities to ensure Boston’s stages and studios are filled with talent for years to come. The event is the one time of year that the entire community can come together and celebrate their own.
