TONIGHT, November 14 | HUMAN ZOO (2009) & ANGEL-A (2005): The U.S. premiere of Human Zoo! Director Rie Rasmussen is scheduled to appear in person after every screening for a Q&A. Program will also include a screening of
Rie Rasmussen’s short film Thinning the Herd.
Wednesday, November 16 | Dementia (w/ live narration by Paul F. Tompkins, live score by Eban Schletter!): Paul F. Thompkins (Mr. Show) provides live narration for this early-50s horror-noir gem, while Eban Schletter (music man from Mr. Show!) scores the film, also live.
Wednesday, November 16 | Beginners’ Magic Class with Simon Coronel: In this condensed version of his longer beginners’ course, international award winner Simon Coronel will provide students with a unique introduction to the world of close-up illusion. This course will arm you with “instant gratification” material that you can begin performing right away, as well as to give you the tools to continue to expand your skills on your own. You will come away from this class having learned not only the technique, but also the psychology behind 4 fun illusions.
Thursday, November 17 | Calarts Experimental Animation MFA 2011: Join Calarts for a screening of the Experimental Animation MFA Graduating Class of 2011, featuring artists from all over the world, and showcasing a rich mix of techniques and unique visions.
Thursday, November 17 | WOYZECK: Woyzeck is the story of a young soldier shouldering overwhelming burdens – a young wife, an infant child, and an entire army of men determined to bully him to madness. In an attempt to cushion his meager wages, Woyzeck voluntarily subjects himself to the paid experiments of a demented Doctor who requires him to subside solely upon hopes of scientific revelation and a strict diet consisting exclusively of peas. Woyzeck is a tragedy of helplessness loaded with temptation, existential struggle, and social satire. Lonesome No More! Theatre’s collaboration with Yeaheay, a new live/work space for exhibition and performance in East Hollywood, brings Woyzeck into the home, inviting audiences to sit at the dining room table while watching the play unfold over every square foot of the domestic space.
Sunday, November 20 | Fake Radio Presents: Sing-a-Long Wizard of Oz!: For nearly 10 years, Fake Radio has been presenting its comedic take on classic radio shows from the Golden Age of radio with a blend of original broadcast scripts and improvised dialogue. This radio play version of Wizard of Oz originally aired after the release of the MGM movie, and features Judy Garland reprising her role as Dorothy Gale! Every audience member a song sheet so they can sing right along with the cast.
