Thursday, October 6 to Saturday, October 22 – Chalk & Saltwater: The Ladder Project In 1926 Edgar B. Davis used his vast oil fortune to become the sole producer of The Ladder. During its two year run, the play acquired some of the most scathing reviews that the New York stage has ever seen. The Ladder became known as “the longest running failure in American theatre history.” Through historical biographies, passages from unreleased memoirs, and glimpses into 40 boxes of decaying 100-year-old documents, our team of writer/performers investigate this wildly expensive disappointment to bring you Chalk and Saltwater: The Ladder Project – and ask, is their value to be found in failure?
Thursday, October 6 to Thursday, November 3 – Paranormal Adventure League In the spirit of Ghost Adventures, Paranormal State, Ghost Hunters & Scooby Doo, The Paranormal Adventure League is bringing their LIVE haunted show to the Chemically Imbalanced Theater on Thursday nights in October. Join the adventurers as they lead an improvised live investigation of bizarre paranormal experiences suggested by the audience & then follow along on some of their unusual encounters outside the theater through video footage.
Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 – The Americans Coya Paz in partnership with Voice of the City presents THE AMERICANS. An original performance about how diverse Americans define being “an American” during a time of national crisis. Based on conversations with over 100 people- mostly strangers, on the street- in 10 states. The Americans is a fast, funny, openhearted look at a national culture built on the importance of individual freedoms. It was work-shopped with Halcyon Theatre as part of the DCA Incubator series, and this run kicks off the inaugural season of programming at the new Arts Center, Logan Square Avondale.
Sunday, October 9 – The Girl of the Golden West Puccini’s operatic take on the Wild West is updated to the capitalist culture of Wall Street, perfectly reflecting Puccini’s innovative spirit. This splashy production from the Netherlands Opera is sprinkled with Hollywood glitz. Starring Eva-Maria Westbroek, Lucio Gallo, and Zoran Todorovich. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Monday, October 10– Bell’s Brewery Beer Dinner Larry Bell will host Hopleaf’s first Bell’s Brewery beer dinner. Hopleaf has had a long and very special relationship with Bell’s including the fact that for 20 years our window has sported the only Bell’s neon sign. We are long overdue to have such an event! We will be featuring a wide array of flavors from Bell’s portfolio of beers in the heart of the Midwest harvest season, paired with dishes devised by Chef Ben Sheagren.
