A few weekends ago, I was fortunate enough to visit the Big Apple for the New York Worlds Maker Faire. Everything about the city was exciting; from dodging people at Grand Central Station, to strolling through the neighborhoods at midnight. I loved listening to the variety of languages being spoken on the subways and savoring different culinary flavors on every block. Being surrounded by so much energy and life was revitalizing, to say the least.
After experiencing all that New York has to offer I was all over this event to help the Atlantic Yards Project. The dream behind this new development is to increase jobs and economic vitality for the area, provide affordable housing, and open space in addition to providing income for the City of New York. Construction has slowed down over the past few years due to the economic downturn and it’s questionable whether this piece of land is being rebuilt in the best way possible.
On Thursday, October 13th, BrooklynSpeaks, will host a charity event to help raise awareness about their fight for accountability and sustainability at the Atlantic Yards site. According to the event description, attendees will hear “insights from special guest Majora Carter, one of the world’s most foremost authorities on sustainable development, and host of the NPR series The Promised Land. Attendees will also enjoy “spicy flavors from Prospect Heights’ favorite southwestern kitchen.” Pick up your tickets here and enjoy a two course dinner with a complimentary glass of wine or beer. All proceeds will support community advocacy with the intention of making Atlantic Yards work for the betterment of Brooklyn.
Get out there, get informed and speak your viewpoint. They need your support!
