In this class you will learn three different finishing flourishes and get help developing your own subtle flavor adjustments to create a signature pie your family will talk about for years to come.
Friday, September 9 The Heartland Cafe Presents Sara Hickman Raised in Houston, Texas, Sara launched her professional career at age 14 at a Houston Oilers party with just her guitar and voice. She was soon singing at bank openings, psychiatric units and weddings. Her independently-released debut, “Equal Scary People,” was picked up in 1989 by Elektra. This was followed in 1990 by the album “Shortstop,” which yielded the #3 adult contemporary hit “I Couldn’t Help Myself. Sara has twice been a guest of NBC’s Tonight Show, hosted her own VH-1 special and produced an independent video, “Joy,” which won first place in the USA Film Festival. She has performed nationally, from festivals to Carnegie Hall to house concerts. On Friday, she returns to the Heartland Cafe with Micki Croisant supporting.
Starting Saturday, September 10 The City That Drinks “The City That Drinks” written by Neo-Futurists Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda and newcomer Jamie Budzick,is a show all about the history of drinking & writing in Chicago (as well as the non-drinking history). The show is a game between the Drinking & Writing crew and the audience. Audience participation, stories, music, commentary, and of course, drinking, are all involved in this fast-paced show. Each show offers up new material and no two shows are alike.
Sunday, September 11 13th Annual Oktoberfest East Lake View Neighbors celebrates each fall with their annual Oktoberfest Pig Roast and Silent Auction fundraiser. In October, 2010 they raised over $19,000, all of which was donated directly back to the neighborhood. Admission includes beer, wine, vodka punch & pop, roasted pig, grilled chicken, vegetables & brats, German potato salad & dessert.
Sunday, September 11 Slow Food Chicago presents: 3rd Annual Pig Roast at Goose Island Slow Food Chicago presents their 3rd Annual Goose Island Pig Roast. Enjoy Goose Island beers & local pork prepared by talented chefs: Rick Gresh (David Burke’s Primehouse), Andrew Hroza (Goose Island Clybourn Brewpub), Rob Levitt (The Butcher & Larder), Nicole Pederson (C-House) and Matt Troost (Three Aces). There will be a vegatarian dish prepared by Chris Spear of Uncommon Ground and dessert from Stephanie Samuels of the Angel Food Bakery. DJ Jacob Ross will also be in the house playing hits, classics, and rare cuts from the family of funk.
