Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3 Joe Wong Joe Wong headlined the Radio and TV Correspondents’ Dinner where he roasted vice president Joe Biden. He made multiple appearances on the David Letterman and Ellen Degeneres shows. Joe’s life has been very boring except two surprises in 2010. He went to the Great American Comedy Festival and won the competition there. Then he became Boston Comedian of the Year, after failing to become the Boise, Idaho comedian of the year. Joe is a dedicated social networker, Facebook status commentator, a verbose twitterer, and an avid spam email reader. Joe holds liquor well. He just throws up everything else. Joe makes fun of himself in his standup routines. When Joe’s son is 3 years old, he would climb up a stool and say, “Hi I’m Irish!” Yes a 3 year old gets ahead of Joe in mocking him.
Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4 Melissa Ferrick Since the early 1990s, the accomplished singer-songwriter from New England has compiled a string of sonically strong, lyrically rich studio albums. During her most recent appearances, she featured several new numbers from her latest album “Goodbye Youth,” wrapping her audiences in an indelible melodic embrace that resulted in nightly standing ovations. With the release of “Goodbye Youth,” Ferrick’s fan base and will certainly continue to expand, and fuel the enthusiasm for her music and further drive the passion she brings to her live shows.
Starting Monday, September 5 Introduction to Burlesque (Mondays in September) Through a series of lessons and demonstrations which build upon one another, students will learn the fundamentals of burlesque dance. At the end of the course, you will have the building blocks to create your own fun and flirty dance routine. Over the four weeks we’ll discuss burlesque-related topics like music selection, the art of costuming, and performing for an audience. Burlesque is a terrific form of expression for any woman. It builds confidence, comfort with your own body and it’s great exercise too!
Tuesday, September 6 Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Food Tour Boston Food Finds conducts food tours throughout Boston and Cambridge, MA. Fun and food are the main ingredients in all of our tours. While tour stops are subject to change, past Greenway food tours have included the newly-opened Blue Inc. restaurant, J. Hook Lobster, Silk Road BBQ food cart, Grilled Cheese Nation and Clover’s food trucks, an edible garden, the Dewey Square Farmers’ Market and 4-star Radius restaurant.
Starts Tuesday, September 6 TIM BLANE BAND plus THE PATRICK THOMAS BAND – a weekly residency A fantastic new residency kicks off fall at The Lizard Lounge with the co-headlining acts Tim Blane Band and The Patick Thomas Band. Each week the bands will reverse order as well as have occasional friends open the show. Who are these guys? Tim Blane has played his catchy, acoustic-pop music throughout the US, garnering accolades like a Boston Music Award nomination and two finals appearances in the Starbucks Songwriting Competition. Patrick Thomas’ sound has been likened to Paul Simon, Ryan Adams and Tom Waits. He recently founded the critically acclaimed band Hotels & Highways.
