On her first US tour and first ever Northwest show! According to her bio, “Agnes Obel is a Danish singer, songwriter and musician who lives in Berlin. She began playing the piano as a child, and soon discovered songwriting. Feeling musically related to Roy Orbison, Agnes Obel possesses the rare gift of a songbird’s voice, bringing to mind Ane Brun, Joanna Newsom or even Ricki Lee Jones.”
Starts Friday, June 10 Seattle International Dance Festival – Beyond the Threshold The International Artist Series and Spotlight on Seattle present in partnerhsip with Cornish College of the Arts a hotbed of figures on the international, national and local dance scene. Performers include Iraqi Bodies (Iraq), Agnieszka Laska (Poland), Scott Wells (San Francisco) and more.
Saturday, June 11 King Kamehameha Day Celebration This will be the 1st Annual Kamehameha Day to be celebrated in the Pacific Northwest. There will be Hawaiian food, Hawaiian arts & crafts, music and lots of ALOHA! This year will feature legendary island reggae ambassadors HO’AIKANE, the originators of the JAWAIIAN reggae movement. Also on the bill: JB & Groove Fiery, Unified Culture and Island Bound who are currently blowing up the charts on the pipeline2paradise radio station.
Sunday, June 12 Save the Girls III Come to Pink Ultra Lounge for a night of fun, fashion and entertainment! This event is produced by Little Black Dress Productions and benefits the Puget Sound affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This organization supports breast cancer research, education and various support services.
Sunday, June 12 J9 Fierce Presents: SOUND & SMOKE CABARET Showcased in the grand style of the underground cabarets of 1920’s Berlin, Sound & Smoke Cabaret promises an evening enveloped in the mood of the Weimar cabaret scene – one of the most explosively creative eras of the 20th century.
